Westminster, Colorado Real Estate and Relocation Information
As
did most of Denver’s suburbs, Westminster got its start because
of the Gold Rush in 1849. The Homestead Act, passed in 1862, brought
many settlers to the area. The land proved to be a good place to grow
apples and cherries. The arid climate challenged the eastern settlers,
and many sold their land to real estate developers. Apple and cherry
orchards continued to prosper, were sold to make room for the Denver-Boulder
Turnpike which opened in 1952. Soon the community grew, and in 1978
city officials put in place a “pay as you go” growth policy
which allowed Westminster to preserve its quality of life. The population
today approaches 110,000.
